EBay files trademark applications for NFTs and metaverse services

E-commerce giant eBay has filed trademark applications related to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse, according to trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis who first broke the news via Twitter on Tuesday.

In applications submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 23, eBay will get involved with NFTs, NFT exchanges and trading, virtual goods marketplaces, and online retail store services featuring physical and virtual goods.

Last week, eBay announced that it has acquired NFT marketplace KnownOrigin in a move to further integrate NFTs into business. The company has been vocal about adopting NFTs and related services since last year, indicating plans to launch its own NFT marketplace and digital wallet service.
